Default 2000 Spark Plug Question

While having my engine out for the timing assembly & oil pump change, I decided it would be a good time to change the plugs. The question is why did Motorcraft make a design change on the plugs. The plug I removed was a Motorcraft AWSF 22E. The new plug is a Motorcraft AGSF22WM. The threads on the old plug verses the new plug are half as many threads. I called the Ford Delearship to verify I have the correct plug. Are the extra threads there for additional thread locking? I don't want to pop a hole in all of the pistions.

I haven't seen a thread concerning this issue. I thought it would make for good conversation.

....can't say I'm familiar with the plugs, but if Ford recommends the new plugs for the application, holing a piston from a protruding plug will not be a worry.

I got the new plugs in, and everything sounds alright. Maybe the extra threads are there for added security.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes indeed, these engines have been spitting plugs since the beginning and they just changed the threads on the plugs to add more security!
