04' 5.4 running rough at idle

If mine was doing that i would use a can of Sea Foam in with the gas first. Do one treatment of this and see if it fixes the problem. I had a check engine light come on in my Ranger one time and after $470 it turned out to be a dirty throttle body (carbon buildup in the fuel injectors and intake. Wish i had known about some of the fuel treatment additives like Sea Foam that decarb motors before that problem occured. I know guys that run Sea Foam in Two stroke outboard motors and they dont have problems with carbon build up which is a huge problem in dirty 2 stroke motors. It cleans injectors and fuels systems, i would give it a try before i threw my wallet at the dealer.

i had a 2000 ranger that had this problem but mine costed me a crate motor...
it was idleing funny like shuttering then it would be fine it stalled acouple times but always ran fine when driving did wires plugs etc and in the end it was the timing gear had blown to pieces and the metal shavings destroyed the poor 3.0 i had about a half inch of metal shavings in the oil pan not to scare anyone but im just telling you what happend to me im not even sure if theese trucks have the same type timing setup as the ranger but it might be worth looking into just to be sure

im with texas edition if your light was on or is on i would def bring it to either a part store or even the dealership to have the scanner hooked up before u start using additives i know my dealership runs scans for free and i trust them more than the generic scanners they use at say autozone or any partstore for that matter good luck man let us know what you come up with
