Yeah. PATS is a pain but custom tuning is apparently pretty sweet anyway so it is worth the $400 to both get the 5.4 to run right and the other benefits of custom tuning with the 4.6l pcm. I ordered an SCT x3 with custom tunes tonight from VMP so I guess I'll see how long it takes and how much I like the tunes as soon as it gets here.

this is being made out to be a helluva lot more work than it is. It can be solved like this:

you: dial number to 5star tuning
them: OMGHI 5 star tuning
you: hi, i need a tune for a 97 4.6L/4x2 (4R70W, AODE is 4x4) it has an 01 5.4L blah blah mods.
them: ok, visa number please?
you: blah
them: ok, give us some time.
you: k, thanks
you: wait patiently for Brown to show up, plug in tuner, tune truck, drive truck.

That's almost exactly how my email conversation with Justin at VMP went haha. Some people on here dogged him but I have had nothing but a good experience so far.
