Help on timing chains
I am replacing phasers, timing chains, cranshaft sprocket, tensioners and guide on a 5.4L 2005 F-150 3 valve Triton. After putting it together, when I turn it over back to TDC the colored marks on the crankshaft and phasers both move four links. Phasers have 42 teeth, crankshaft pulley has 21 teeth and chain is 122 links.
U don't have a square division on 2 complete revolutions. The chain runs around on the sprockets. Degree the camshaft with the crankshaft. Times of valves opening and closing. Check to see if U have proper compression during the revolutions by hand. That is a must. Important thing is 21 goes into 42= 2 revolutions, a must have. It is timed if U time it properly the first time. U have to start all over if U missed a tooth. Take it apart and try again if U feel not right about it. A feeling is mostly a right move. I won't hurt to double check. U get better at it the more U do it. Stay fresh don't beat UR head.
