Cam phaser noise or something else?
Hey guys. Forgive what I'm sure is the 11x10000000 billionth question on this.
I've got an 04 5.4 and today I noticed a dreaded knock. I've had the truck for around 6 months and it's got 67,4xx miles. This knock is coming from the front of the engine, passenger side. The best way I can describe it is it sounds like the timing chain is tossing a rock around.
I've been searching and I'm not sure if this is the "cam phaser noise" or something to do with the chain (guides maybe?) or something else.
Can anyone say yay or nay on the general location as compared to a cam phaser knock and or provide a good vid with the sound?
I'm biting the bullet and getting it diagnosed at Ford tomorrow to see what the say, but as a guy who has never had a shop diagnose anything on his car I can't help but do some research myself to be sure.
