5.4l phaser....
I had a post going in another section but I thought it fit better here.....after a few weeks of trouble here is where I am at....
so here's an update if anyone is still reading.
Got a call from the dealership today and they ran a diagnostic and found the compression low on #3 and #5 and it needed a CAT. no mention of the cam not working on bank 1. They said it would need a new motor and it would be $9,900 to replace it. I asked what the compression was on those cylinders and he said #3 was down 3% and 5 was down 7%. I don't know much but I don't think that would cause the issues that I am having in the truck. I kindly gave them the $85 for the diagnostic and took the truck.
I took it to the only other place in town that will work on it. They agreed that it sounded like the phasers and that they would look at it and call next week to let me know. Said that they could replace them but there is no guarantee that it will fix it. Said that if there was any sludge build up in the motor at all it would likely not last long.
I change the oil every 5k miles but I don't use the motor craft filters. All three places that i have talked to said that was the problem. I find that hard to believe but it is what it is.
Shop said the repairs were going to run 1200-1500 or a remaned engine for around $4k.
so here's an update if anyone is still reading.

Will the Phaedra cause the cam to stop adjusting. When we had it hooked to the diagnostic machine we could see the left cam moving but the right one was not. What else would keep the cam from adjusting?
