Poor acceleration
I have a 1997 F150 4x4 Off-Road with 4.6L V8/ I bought it new and had it 22 years and sold it because I couldn't afford to fix the engine along with other stuff/ guy that bought it rebuilt the engine, transfer case, new transmission, installed K&N filter system, MSD ignition, headers, dual exhaust----everything I wanted to do but never had the time or money. I bought the truck back after a couple of years. He has a Edge CTS2 hooked up to OBDII, mainly to monitor coolant temp as dash temp gauge doesn't work. He said he's had better luck with trailer towing programming. I've tried this program and stock program (stock according to this tuner gadget). Engine runs smooth, sounds strong but for it being rebuilt and all other items installed, it has poor acceleration. I think he put in a different throttle body too. I tried to get a summary of all that has been done, but he couldn't help me out. There is something wrong with power configuration, either in programming or air/fuel mixture but I'm not a mechanic. I know this truck can accelerate better than this, I just don't know what is wrong. When I changed the programming through CTS2 tuner to "stock", it affected shift points, which are good. Transmission shifts good. Obviously, the only difference I noticed is that under towing programming, it holds on to the the gears longer than stock programming (revs longer between shifts when giving decent acceleration). But, even with that, I feel there is something not right, aside from the shift points. Any advice as to where to take it to have it looked at for power configuration? I don't want to take it to a regular mechanic that won't know about programming or tweaking engine or other parts/sensors to correct settings. He did tell me he did not hook up cruise control but I never used it anyway and didn't think it mattered. Any ideas? Can you recommend the type of shop that can look at all the configurations to try to marry as best as possible? What questions should I ask. Your help will greatly be appreciated.
