Default need help on 2000 4.2

2000 f150 2wd, 4.2 manual trans, 130k
Just bought it with a few issues, i replaced a few parts relating to the egr, new plugs, wires, fuel filter, seafoam in the tank, clean maf, new tps.

now the camshaft position synch was chewed up. Replaced it and i can get it right. My crank marks are very hard to see so i pulled the bolt and put the key at the top. Installed the shaft at 54 degrees or at least my best idea of it with the tool, but im getting a major hesitation with no power. Codes i get are lean codes bank a and b.

Now i have searched everything online and have come up with junk. Some say the crank needs to be 26 degrees after tdc, some say the key way straight up, but nothing is working out so i need some help. Please.

My chiltons is hard to understand as well, it says front the center line of the engine, install at 54 degrees clockwise, but that would go the opposite direction, and how serious is the 54 degrees being exact, does anyone have a photo of one installed.

Just read the instructions for my OTC tool. I read nothing about what degree to rotate anything. My instructions say to put #1 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke, engage tool to housing and install housing into engine. I used this tool only once on my 96 5.0. Worked perfectly with no issues at all. Going from memory, and also a word of caution, this is what I remember. Be very careful as damage to housing can occur if you are not careful.

Just as in installing a dirstrbutor, as the gear on the distributor meshes with the camshaft gear that drives it, the shaft rotates, this can cause damage to the vane if the shaft is not allowed to rotate. Hence, I recommend this, install housing with out use of tool and after housing is completely seated and oil pump engaged, reposition crank at TDC and now insert tool to fine tune the housing position to match tool, if incorrect, remove housing, ratate shaft and reengage. This sounds crazy and I'm certain by now you are completely confused. Send me a PM with your doubts or questions and I'll try another attempt.
