3.5 Eco boost regret?
#23
It's funny people what people compare the EB to. My old 5.4 did get the same mpg. But it also had all of 250lb-ft of tq not 420. Not apples to apples. 6.2l vs the Eco that's apples to apples. 6.2 power with 5.0l economy

They did.... I know because I own one. 2013 and 2014 XLT ' S could come with the 6.2.

Starting to regret mine. Since it was new it's had the bog down/shudder issue that Ford has never been able to completely get rid of. Now it's kicking out the dreaded P0016 error code indicating by most accounts the timing chain is stretched and it has less than 50,000 miles on it. When it runs good it's a great engine but mine has been in and out of the shop so much it's really started to wear on my nerves. I think after I get this P0016 issue resolved I'm going to look at trading it in even though I don't have a payment on it right now. The sad thing is they're going to put this engine into the 2017 Raptor. I'll be going with the V-8 if I do trade it in.

I have a late 2012 model. If I had to replace it tomorrow, I would definitely look at the V8. If for nothing else, just to see if the throttle response is better. I'm guessing it will be just as lazy due to all of the government mandated electronic "nannies". Every time I hear "throttle-by-wire", I grit my teeth. Maybe there is a programmer that will make response instantaneous, but which one? The Edge EVO HT didn't do anything for it.
My next truck may be a custom build of an older F150.

You ref the lazy throttle response, check out my post at the link below #564, check the fuel your putting in it, anything with Ethanol will make it sluggish.

Further, although i have only had the truck for 6 months, LOVE IT, went from the 5.4 triton in my last on with an edge evolution tuner hooked to it, and my new truck stock still would blow the old one out of the water with response and power. Also dont miss the sound of the duel exhaust either, i would trade that sound in for the whistle of my turbos any day!

I bought my 2011 used with 13,000 miles on it and it now has 65,000 miles. I tow a travel trailer with it, tow a loaded utility trailer, take it off road from time to time, and drive it without a tune, no lift or leveling.
The only issue that I've had with it is a coil shorting out on me. I'd buy again if I was looking.
