Default "x" pipe and muffler

I have 2 questions, 1 Wat is the benefits of a "x" pipe on true dual pipes, and 2 Wat muffler would sound good, my truck has a 302 and I'm wanting to do true duals and wanting a good sounding, cheap muffler. Thanks for your input

X-H pipe balances the sides exhaust flow.. Best way I can explain it is, X-pipe will give INDY car like sound and H-pipe will give you the dragster sound. Depending on the sound your looking for, would depend on which crossover pipe and muffler you want.

Chambered mufflers really dont sound to good with x-pipes. But the H-pipe can work with both. Check out a thread I started, I have vid's on there of my new exhaust. It is 2.5" with X-pipe and magnaflow muffler.

The x pipe uses the crossing of exaust pulses from each side of the engine to help scavenge the exaust from the other. A header collector works the same way, the pulse from the cylinder that just finished its exaust cycle, creates a suction in the pipe it passes, helping suck out the gas from the next cylinder. In comparison a normal H pipe only balences pressure between the two pipes, and dulls the sound. Chambered mufflers, even flowmasters dont flow as well as straight thru, you can see it on a flow bench, a cheap glasspack outflows just about anything. Flowmasters design does have an advantage in preventing flow reversion , spent gas being sucked back during overlap and polluting the combustion mixture, but on the bench, they are a restricton.

Glas pack will give you bout same sound as the flowmaster, maybe even louder depending on what series flowmaster.
