We're having a discussion at work, can anyone tell me why x pipes arent street legal but y's and h's are ok

I have never heard of them being illegal but as far as they go, y's are what usually came stock so thats why why there ok they were manditory exuipment, an H pipe basically just evens the pressure on both side of the exhaust when you have duals and an x pipe basically do the same thing but help eliminate catalic convertors so that might be why you think there illegal if you truck has to go for emissions it has to have a cat on it, in wisconsin anything onlder than 96 dont have to so thats why i went to stright true duels

It started when we were looking at xpipes on summit racing and jegs, they are all sold for off road use only

I think because they usually get rid of the cat, which is illegal.

Like i said Milje is right when you look online and it says off road use only it is becasue they get rid of the stock cat, and some states still have these trucks and cars go for emissions but if your truck doesnt have to its not illegal because no one will ever know
