Where is the temp sending unit

Default Where is the temp sending unit

1990 f-150 5.0 v8 XLT lariat, the gauge is not working I have changed the temp sensor so the sending unit is my next guess i can't seem to find where exactly it is, what's y'alls guess on the gauge not working?

The sending unit is definitely the right place to look. The temp sensor signals to the computer, but not the gauge. I don't know where it is on the V8, but on the I6 it's at the back of the engine under the intake manifold. It's a sensor with a single wire hooked to it. You can test the gauge by grounding the sending wire and looking for the gauge to go all the way to the hot side.

I don't know if it's in the same place as it is on my '95 302, but if it is it's toward the front of the engine, drivers side on the intake manifold. It about right under where the plug wires are. There's one wire going to it with a black L shaped push on connector.

Check out this pic. Look at the where the first manifold bolt is on the drivers side. Directly behind it is the temp sending unit for the gauge.

Yes the 5.0 v8 is the 302 should be the same I'll let you know. thanks for the good pic I have been looking on google images but can't seem to get a good one with the udder intake and everything else in the way
