This should be an easy one for somebody... I'm working on my '88 4.9 truck. I've been sorting out some of my emmissions routing, using my roommates early 90's (not sure of year) 4.9 truck as a guide. My truck has this part that his doesn't. Sometimes after shutting off my truck I will discover this thing running. Even hours after shutting off the vehicle. I'm starting to think it doesn't have anything to do with emissions, but the random engagement is a little concerning.

Any ideas?

OK.. How about an Anti Vapor Lock Cooling Fan.

 

It's the fan that cools the flux capacitor. Duh.

 

I think it's a turbocharger...…………….
