Default What is this red thing for?

I recently got my truck from my father and I have no idea what this red dot by the duel tank switch is or does. Any help would be appreciated. And my second gas cap will not come off, could anyone help me and tell me how to remove it without breaking it. It spins but will not release and I am thinking that maybe my dad never used it much so that why it won't come off. I tried searching but didn't come up with anything. Thanks

Well me father bought it new in 96 and he was an older fellow so I don't think he would have modded it. So I don't know.

I agree 93, that has to be a mod from someone. Although it looks like an indicator light to me. If you want to know for sure btalley, you could pull that front dash bezel off. Just be careful of the fuel pump relay wires hooked up to it. As for the gas cap, I would try getting some oil into it, maybe WD-40 or an equivalent. Just to see if the mechanism frees up. Sometimes shock will free it up in conjunction, but be your own judge on that front.

I can't find a picture or any wiring diagram that shows that light. Could he possibly have had the dealer or someone install an aftermarket alarm and this where they put the alarm active light? Just guessing.

Also, in case you still don't have it, here is a link you can down load the owners manual.

Yeah, this site has answered many of my questions I've had. Glad to help out . If your dad didn't use that second tank too much, there might be a reason for it. It wouldn't hurt to give it a once over just to make sure it's not holy or has a bad fuel pump. Once the cap's off, of course!

Or it could be a dummy alarm light? Didn't think of that.

I have that same light, in the same spot on the 95 I bought a few weeks ago. Its for the dealer installed alarm. Its a code alarm rebranded by ford. When you lock the doors with the remote the alarm should chirp and that light should start blinking.
