Default What is this piece??

My dad and I are reassembling my 302, and noticed this piece looked broke and I was wondering if I have to replace it(which would entail a 100 mile one way drive to the parts store)... It was on the threads right below that hose. Dad thinks it's emission control related, but we wanted to make dang sure before we put the whole rig back together.

Thanks in advance....

The crossover pipe that goes to the 2 heads and that hose coming from the diverter valve on the top left there are part of the air pump system (fresh air). Yes it's part of emissions, that pumps fresh air through your heads (the other hose going down directs air to your cats).
You can do without it fine, but you need to find a way to block the hose and the crossover pipe.
Or the rest of that piece is probably still inside that hose, you could maybe fish it out of there and braze that piece back together.
Or at least plug it real good and screw it back on and just shove a big bolt in the hose.
You can remove the crossover and plug the holes in the heads with the correct size bolts (the size of which I do not remember) but that would probably also involve a trip to the parts store.
That crossover pipe will be on the back of every 302 from 87-88 to 96.
Found a picture. Not the best one, but you can see where it all goes.

100 miles, must be an ecommerce alternative. There are many on-line parts sites on the web & many offer Ford Motorcraft parts. Shipping has to be less that 200 mile fuel, not counting your time.

From experience I can tell u a lug nut fits perfectly as a plug for the whole.
