Default What are my options?

My 92 2WD long bed truck needs a tranny. Engine runs strong. 155K original miles. I just found a 4WD, 300 straight, Mazda 5 speed truck, extended cab, reasonable body (that obviously I cannot use, lol) Under 1,000.00. It won't pass smog. I am supposed to test drive the truck in a couple days. I am said to have first option to buy but you know how that goes. It could be a great truck with the right mechanic, but then I'd have 2 '92s which I wouldn't mind. It could be a parts truck to use on my 2WD and sell the body parts. Guys, what are my options? The price seems right for a running truck.

Just butting in here....there is no way you can just interchange the parts (unless your original is a ranger pick-up then maybe)
Is that mazda possibly a 3.0 engine & not a 300...two different playing fields here ????

I could be wrong but isn't the original Ford Custom F 150, 300 straight six the same as a 4.9 engine? And I thought the 5 speed in a '92 is always the Madza tranny. This is why I am on this forum...I need to know what to look for in this truck. I believe all the info is on the door jam. Thank you for your reply.

by mazda 5 speed he is referring to the M5OD trans, which was a mazda unit,

OP, it sounds like a half decent deal, do you know why it won't pass smog?

Since you didn't give us all the details about your truck, and you don't have them in your signature, we can't really help you. Read this page and follow the links on it:

The Mazda M5OD-R1 is a midsize truck transmission; the -R2 is fullsize.

Oops. I will get the information tonight. Thank you. I believe both trucks are fullsize using the -R2 tranny. 1992 Custom trucks that are small trucks in comparison to todays F 150s.

I just received a text from the truck owner. Supposedly someone has offered 1100.00.
Having looked at 1992 4WD Ford F150s or this generation, I've seen these trucks going for 2400.00 on up. Generally when someone raises the price like this, I say adios. But, I am going to look at it and drive it tomorrow.
