Rubbery burning from under the hood....sounds like something with the belt/pulley system...not sure...never had an issue like this...

hmmm. its just very tricky. . i would like to get this figured out soon, how would i test to check the pully systems?

I would figure that with the belt off certain ones could spin by hand. Idler (of course), fan/water pump pulley, alternator, maybe the power steering. The only one that shouldn't spin by hand (I would think) is main pulley on the engine.

hmmm alright, ill pull the belt off tomorrow and see if i can spin them by hand

Don't have to take it all the way off. Just move it away from the tensioner pulley so it has some slack. I just realized I've been calling it an idler pulley...I guess in a way it is....but I meant the tensioner pulley.

ha i knew what you meant, but okay. i'll give it a shot and hopefully it can give me an idea of whats wrong if one isn't spinning correctly.

I had the same prob. a week later tranny quit! changed filter and fluid fixed it for about another week,then it died completly.

my family had a old pile of crap Taurus that had the AC clutch freeze up going down the road and it would barely run. but it seems like someone else has already mentioned a seized pulley. its not that uncommon for something like that to jam up.
