Default Water pump problems

Today driving I smelt antifreeze, notice heat gaudge was going up to pulled over. Antifreeze dumping out of the bottom of the water pump, fan belt flew off, and the pulley from the water pump is barely hanging on. I'm going to pick up a new water pump but just wondering if anybody has any ideas what might of caused it, the smog pump pulley is off alittle (don't ask how) so the belt was off half a thread on a the crank pulley and not on the edge of the water pump pulley, think that might cause weird pressure on the bearings in the pump? It sucks but could of been worse, not to far away and didn't even wreck the belt lol

Just don't over tighten the belt. As long as the other pullies aren't seized or damaged, you should be fine. Sounds just like a routine water pump failure.

If your water pump bearing had a lot of play it's possible that's what threw your belt off when it finally went out. Advance Auto GMB brand water pumps have a lifetime warranty, if you can't find pumps with a warranty like that, I'd go to advance for it

I got a video but don't know how to post it, the bearings were beat right out, about an inch of play lol. $50 and an hours work got me a new pump, mobile once again.
