Question Warm engine, reluctant start.

Hi all, I have a 96 f150 reg cab shorty, 300 6 5spd Eddie, 118000 miles. Starts right up in the morning no problems at all. When I take a trip of over 20 miles or so, stop turn off the engine I have a hell of a time starting it back up. Engine turns over catches and then sputters and dies, almost like it is "dieseling" if i put the throttle to the floor it will sputter faster till it is up and running like a top again (usually about 10 to 15 seconds). I hooked it up to a friends diagnostic and it showed the usual "gas cap" code. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Ric

So...Take a fuel pressure reading at the fuel rail & find out if it's "necessary".
