Default "vehicle not responding"

Hooked up Auto-X-Ray 6000 to DLC link and STI. Works perfectly on 11 out of 12 various vehicles owned by my sons and I. Ran through test on '93 w/5.0 man trans to correct idle running up to 1500 and back down to 1000 rpm. The scan diagnostic device reads "Scan Failed- Vehicle not responding". Checked with a couple of shops and got different answers. One stated "That year doesn't have diagnostic capabilities". Left there amused. Why would the truck have a DLC and STI connector for scanning if it was not capable? Granted it is only OBD 1 but it should read something. I think the link is disrupted between DLC and PCM. Or the diagnostic portion of the PCM is shot. Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance c.j.

try this https://www.f150forum.com/f10/how-re...es-obdi-10907/
if that works, the scanner isnt compatible, if not, you got a wire issue or fuse..or something

Try the manual method, but your reader should handle Ford 83' & newer. Unsure though, if it is auto detect or if setting to OBD1 is required.

If the manual method works I'd say operator error w/ your reader is likely. If your ECU is toast & it's running, it would be in failsafe mode, which would be pretty crappy & about 9-10 MPG max w/ a flat timing curve.

It is common for the wire connector contacts of the ECU test connector to work their way out of the back of the connector. Causing a non connection when the reader is plugged in.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check into your suggestions. I don't believe it's operator Error,. I've scanned way to many vehicles besides mine and never had a gitch. This diagnostic tool is very easy to use and pretty much plug and play. Then again I've slept since then........c.j.
