Valve cover replace
Ok I've got an 89 Ford F150 XLT Lariat with a 5.0L V8.And its been leaking oil real bad. So I started asking around trying to find out why is was leaking and where from. I was told it was leaking from the valve cover gaskets. So I looked and it looks like he was right so i went out and bought a chrome valve cover dress up kit. And it came with the valve covers, the valve cover gaskets, and some other things. But it didnt come with any instructions. And i have no clue how to do it. Can anyone help me???
What do you need help with? If replacing the gaskets just make sure the mating surface is clear of old gasket and put the new ones on and tighten covers in torque sequence. I am not to familiar with the layout of the 5.0 but I am sure you will have to remove the intake and anything in the way of the covers. Are you asking about assembly of the covers or what?
I have a 88 pretty sure they are set up the same. If so you for sure have to pull upper plenum off. There is one bolt in the middle of It that is a pain. If I remember right it is a thorex head. I would suggest getting a Haynes manual or similar from a local parts store. O'rileys ,auto zone or something like that. You will have to unhook a few vacuum hoses and wire connections. If you are not very familiar with the engine the books will have very valuable pictures when you go to put it back together. You will also need to replace upper plenum gasket. It should be included in the set. Hopefully that answers some of your questions. If there Are more ask. If you were close to me I wouldn't mind giving you a hand. I've got a bad back and awaiting knee surgery so not much help climbing under the hood. But I'm a good finger pointer and tool Fletcher. Lol!
