Default Vacuum line Question

Ok, I noticed a rough idle and decided to pull codes....got a code 44. In checking my vacuum lines, I noticed they appear to be missing from the TAB and TAD? Am I looking at this correctly? I was contemplating changing the lines to rubber, but this has me somewhat stumped. 1992 Ford F150 XLT with 302 auto.

Seriously? Can I not run new hoses? Is it possible someone removed the smog pump? It's been running fine outside of a rough idle. This is the first vehicle I've really worked on, so I'm definitely a novice.

You need to get your vacuum lines off the manifold so they don't chafe through. As to the ones that are missing, you can cut the hard lines back and splice the correct fitting rubber line on, use a bit of silicone to make a good seal, and slide the rubber line up on it to make a good seal. Get some tee fittings and run the lines. I would suggest finding a vacuum diagram for your truck on-line and go through your vacuum system looking for worn/chafed though lines and replace as necessary.

Thanks for the info. Interestingly enough, I was able to find on this site what the previous owner had done. He was a former poster and had removed the smog pump. Looks like he was getting a code 44 as well.

Guess he did it right though and the truck has a good inspection. I'm going to change out what vacuum hoses I have left though as I still suspect a leak.

Well I went ahead and changed out the plastic vacuum lines for rubber. Also changed out the throttle body gasket while I was at it. Seems to idle much smoother. Gonna take it out for a road test shortly.
