Default Turning an automatic into a manual?

I was wondering how much it would cost to change my automatic into a manual transmission? Also what I would need to do and what I would need? Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated.

i asked the same question a while back..and got the answer that it would just be easier and less expensive just to buy a stick shift truck instead of making your automatic to a 5 speed...so thats what i did..lol...i have my 93 f150 automatic and bought recently a 92 f150 5 speed...

Ya but it's a really long story, there is a lot of sentimental value in this truck and it's not about the money or the difficulty if the task. I'm willing to take on any challenge meeded

The transmission swap would be easy. The task at hand is stuffing a clutch pedal under the dash and making it work safely/properly.

I was looking at an automatic Neon awhile back. So I did some research on how to make it into a 5 speed. I don't even know why they make half the cars they do in automatic. Anyways, you needed the transmission, pedal, a mtx computer, and all the parts in between. I was told that you can keep the atx computer but you'd just get codes because it's a different set-up. Here is a write-up for a Civic. You can't follow it truly but it gives you an idea of the parts and somewhat of the process. http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2943969

I just did this in my truck. Need trans, pedals, trans sub harness, necessary clutch components, starter, and may have to modify driveshaft. (i have to take roughly 1.5" out)

How r u taking 1.5"out when the Mazda 5 speed is 4" another then an auto and the ZF grany/ 5 speed is like 5" shorter. The cost of doing a 5 speed swap is No where near the price of buying another truck. It's an easy swap. I did my new trucks swap to 5 speed in 3 hrs. It's roughly around 500 for the who swap but to me it's well worth it. Better fuel mileage, gives you a higher gear ratio, more control over your vehicle, and a lot more fun then an auto. The petals I'd say were the worst part of the whole thing getting the brake pedal out of your truck and installing the brake and clutch pedal combo bracket in. Took me around about 1.5 hrs. It probably ly wouldn't hurt to get a computer for a truck author your motor and a 5 speed to swap out try yours. I'm trying to get one but computers for a 5.0 H.O. with a 5 speed ain't easy to find around here. The plugs are a there in the manual wiring harness or your new 5 speed. And the plug for the hydrolic slave is right there under the dash. Any questions just as all me I've done a lot of these trucks to 5 speed.

I'm strongly considering doing the swap, but I'll probably wait until my auto dies, I just can't decide if it's worth it. I definitely prefer driving manuals, I prefer the gas mileage, control, and ability to repair it on my own. My only hesitancy is towing and cab space.. Anyone tow (specifically boats) with a manual? Can you still sit 3 across with a manual?

My buddy has a K1500 reg cab, short bed. We sit three across, him, me, his little brother, sometimes dog, sometimes a kid our size. We fit. It pulls my 1988 Ranger 17' tiller fine, and that's only a V6. When pulling the boat out of the water, it's no different than clutching it so you sit still on a hill. Just need a little more gas to pull it out of the water.
