Most likely it's the input shaft bearing IN the transmission. I assume you get the whine just sitting still with the transmission in neutral correct?
When the clutch pedal is pushed down the input shaft in the transmission stops. When the clutch pedal is pushed down the throwout bearing and the pilot bearing spin, so if it's quiet then those bearings are not causing the noise. I hope this sheds a little light on your problem. |
Sound info there, yep. Replace clutch, probably. Replace slave cylinder absolutely. I cheated out one a long time ago replacing the clutch but not the slave. You'd know a month later it started leaking and I had to go back in and replace it. Tough lesson!

Either way, it sounds like the tranny's coming out. Might be an idea to pick up a cheap used one and rebuild that at your leisure then do the swap. Way less downtime. I've found you can usually pick up a decent used one for $150, and if you're rebuilding anyway ...
Just a thought. |

I assumed the trans is the m5r2 and we all know what assumptions do... but how do I tell exactly what trans it has? it says M inside the door and the truck is a 2wd.
|
There is a tag on the side of the trans. Get the number and look it up here.

Okay I looked it up and I do have the M5R2 but how do I tell how many teeth are on the 5th and Rev slider? is it 42 or 33? how the F do I distinguish which...? the tag says F2TA KA B44150...

Looking further there's this info from which I'd take to be 33 T from 6/91 on, including our 94 models. My 94 4x2 parts truck is the same number as yours, my 94 4x4 is a F1TA-GC.
6/91 Early $71.91 DTS-SRK248A Synchro Ring Kit M5R2 Syncro Kit (1 piece Syncros, 33 T 5th & Rev Syncro) 6/91-on Late |
