Transmission issues
Hey all!
1995 F-150 5.0 / 4R70W 4x4
Transmission seems to go into neutral as soon as it hits overdrive. It's had the usual hesitation into reverse for these transmissions as long as I've owned it, but this is new.
If i pedal it, or just click off the O/D, it drives fine.
No blinky O/D light, but the engine light briefly comes on when it happens. Had a slowdown / stuttering issue once or twice a few weeks ago where it lost power and felt like it had a misfire, then never again. Truck has always felt down on power. Engine light briefly, then out that time too. Hopefully that means it stored codes.
Any ideas? Hope it ain't torque converter

Proofread & edit your posts - we only know what you tell us, so if you leave us guessing, you won't necessarily get good answers.
There is no "usual" problem with these trucks' transmissions, other than the owners not maintaining them properly. Do you? Put the truck's maintenance history into your signature. BTW - it's a 5.0L; the 302ci has a carburetor. You should put as many exact details in your sig as you can find; the trans model instead of just "auto" (since there were a few autos available); the intake system (MAP or MAF); the EGR type; the MILES on the engine, the gear ratio, tire size, and a complete list of options (there were MANY variations available within each trim level, so just saying XLT doesn't describe it). Also list the damage, repairs, & modifications (radio, lift, trailer connector, winch...). And it needs to be IN YOUR SIGNATURE so it all shows with each of your posts.

Scanners are not reliable on these trucks - use a jumper wire as that link describes. The 4R70W was only used for 3 years in these trucks, and only with the 5.0L most years. So it's surprising that you've driven that many.
Yeah got lucky i guess. Next truck i find with a 5.0 is gonna be a 5 speed or i don't want it. I think I've only had one 5.0 that wasn't, and it was a 1990 with an AOD
