Motorcraft only for the VSS, is the general concensus.
Wonder if maybe your torque convertor is starting to go ? If all else fails you might try a new one of those - if it works, it will be much cheaper than a rebuild. Only a couple of hundred if you can install it yourself.
Try to track down any other possibilities first of course.

i hope not, truck has 193k on it, it shifts ok as long as I don't give more than 1/2 throttle at once, I was debating on new tps but wasn't sure

You can test the TPS before throwing money at it.

ok, the truck shifts good as long as I don't give it more than about 1/2 throttle, didn't hear any odd noises or feel anything vibrating, not sure if it helps or not but speedo cable has been bouncing going faster than 45 since I got it (before the downshift issue started) never heard any pop, grind, anything until it clunked the first time I put in R o/d light only comes on if I push it. I got a used cruise module (left inner fender by hood hinge) it burnt up and I salvaged a harness and used module but all it did was fix the horn.
