Default Transfer Case????

1989 5.0 auto, with manual shift transfer case bw 1356-94, i'm sure the -94 doesn't matter. Anyway my question these T-cases use mercon right? i was told the previous owner replaced the t-case so i'm trying to find out by looking at the numbers on it. Reason i'm asking is because i've noticed a couple drips on that, and am wondering if the front and rear seals are bad? for reference i noticed my trans pan had dribbles around it, but the level hasn't changed, you'd think if i had a leak there i'd see the level dropping. if the t-case seals are bad is that a DIY job? also would alittle bit of lucas trans rejuvenator be bad to add to the transfer case? another one, which is the recommended repair manual between chiltons and haynes?

thanks,
chris

it's not the seal on the backside, is there a gasket between the tailshaft and tranfers case?
