Default tranny question

a friend of mine has a 96 f150 with a 4.9 5spd in it. the tranny blew in it the other day, so i have been asking around to see if anyone has a replacement. my dads buddy has a 85 f150 with a 5.0 4 spd in it.

my dad isnt sure, but he thinks that the 5.0 4spd tranny would bolt right up to the 4.9 block as long as you just swapped the bell housing. But then there is also the obstacle of weather or not all the mounts are the same along with the size of the drive shaft. is he right? if he is, would the tranny from the 85 be able to fit perfectly into the 96?

idk how clear i made myself here so ill explain further if need

It will use the same bell housing. I think you need a longer drive shaft not sure though. It should bolt up to the cross member. If any thing maybe a trasmission mount.

The only real problems you should have is with the wiring harnes you mite need to do some coustom wiring. And with the cluch system the 85 used a mechanical cluch not hydrolic like the 96.
