Tranny help
Hi guys, I have a 1993 F150 with a E4OD in it. I just replaced the tranny with a used one I bought from a used parts store. After I got the tranny in with new filter and oil it was shifing hard and seemed like it would go to nutral even though in drive once in a while. I changed my TPS and my MAP sensor and my neutral/Park safety switch on the drivers side behind where the shift cable hooks up. The tranny is working better now but It still seems like Drive isn't shifting properly and is still forcing neutral. I hooked up my code reader and it says I have a solinoid 2 fault.
I'm just curious what the next smart step would be. I do have another E4OD I could pull the solinoid pack out and plug it into my harnes and see if the code goes away for the solinoid. Would this be a good trouble shooter to see if the harness is ok? Then if the codes go away I could swap out the solinoid pack. from what I read it doesn't seem like a very hard job.
Does this seem like the right direction to solve my shifting problems?
Thanks for any help.

Before you get too far, check that neutral safety switch (also known as the manual lever position sensor).
Where the shaft comes through the sensor, there is a ring in the sensor that moves with the shaft. That ring has a mark on it, and the front of the sensor has a mark on it. With the tranny in neutral, both marks should line up exactly.
It's not in a great position to see it well, but if you can get a good vantage point, it has to be lined up perfectly. Just loosen the two bolts holding it and give it a twist...
You may have already done this, but just in case - it wouldn't hurt to check!

Yes I have done this already...I think I will check it one more time just to make sure I lined it up correctly. I'm going to plug in the solenoid pack tonight and then dump the computer codes, I'm wondering if I will have to ground the casing when I test. I think I will just in case. The code I dumped was 622, Shift Solenoid #2 circuit fault. I'll post back if it was the solenoid pack and if the code clears.
Thanks for the advice.

Seems like a circuit fault or failure would be electrical - maybe an issue with the wiring harness or one of the connectors?
I dunno... I thought I had bumped heads with just about every e4od issue you could have (mine has been a problem child since day one), but this is a new one on me!

well guys I solved my problem. I made a few rookie mistakes. When I recieved the used tranny I didn't look in the wire connector on the tranny side. The rubber O ring poped our of the groove and was stopping the connector from seating properly. I'm not convinced this was the problem but it could have been. I should have inspected and cleaned it well before I put the tranny into place.
When I pulled out my seloniod pack and looked at it beside my other one I noticed a crack. I plugged in the new one and pulled the codes. Every thing was now ok "I didn't have to ground it" . No tranny codes were pressent. I put in the new one and when I went to put the oil pan on it wouldn't fit. The pan had been dented which is what cracked the other selonoid pack. I hammered it out buttoned everything up and away I went.
A good machanic would have noticed the pan dented and inspected the area around the dent and probably noticed the crack in the selonoid pack.
I know I will pay more attention to detail next time.
Thanks for the help guys, these forums are alot of help when a guy is in a jam.
