Default Towing upgrade

I have a '96 2wd 4.9l 5sp with 3.55 rear end and would like to have a little more grunt when I'm towing so I am thinking of maybe putting a cam in it. Anyone out there done that? Any tradeoffs I should know about?
Thanks

I had one like that. Just my opinion, but I'd spend money on a different set of gears and some kind of LS unit. I think this would give you the biggest performance increase for the least amount of money.

LS stands for limited slip. You can get a Ford Racing limited sli unit for the truck for about $240. As for the gears, a set of 410's would give you quite a bit of difference in pulling power, the lower the gearing the higher the rpm you'll be running down the highway.
