Default timing question?

1992 5.0
My timing is set at 10btdc with the spout connector out. If you put the spout connector back in it changes to about 23btdc why is that?
Also the engine has been clattering really bad lately I had NGK vpower plugs in it and changed them to motorcraft plugs, it seemed to help a little but not much at all. What else can i do?

It's called additional ECU advance.

What type of Motorcraft plugs?

What Octane are you running?

What is your warm idle RPM?

Is Idle stable, or does it search?

The plugs i got are motorcraft coppers.

I run regular unleaded, but i always have.

Warm idle is about 700rpm.

Idle is pretty stable it may move from like 700 to 710rpm.

Seafoam. Skip adding it to oil, unless you're planning to change oil soon. So 1/3 through power brake booster vac hose at warm idle. 2/3 in gas. Shut down for 15-20 seconds, then
rev to around 35000, then back to idle, until smoke dissipates.

This will help, but error codes & fuel pressure should be taken too.

Option #1. Sorry. That's only w/ 'Flux Capacitor" engaged! Go w/ 3500 RPM otherwise.

Option #2. Yes, I don't like to talk about it but...I suffer from "Typus Redundus". Are you proud of yourself now!
