Timing question
Alright fellas this I hope is a dumb question. So I made the rookie mistake of not marking the distributor. To reset the timing I took out the #1 spark plug found the compression stroke, then lined up to 10 BTC. lined up my distributor rotor to the number #1 pin and dropped it in. When I start to truck to fine tune timing my mark is no where to been seen with the timing gun. Whether I advance or retard the distributor does not matter I cannot find my mark. I have the gun set to 0 if that help. But I’m stumped and don’t know where to go from here. Also I did pull the timing chip or whatever that plug is called I cannot remember right now.
SPOUT
The gears are spiral-cut, so the rotor should NOT point directly at #1 before you drop the distributor - it should move there once it's fully-seated. Read this page & follow the links on it:

Are you sure you have the timing light hooked to the number 1 spark plug wire? The front wire on the passenger side? Do you have a white mark scribed on the harmonic balancer? There should be no way that you could not find the mark with the timing light unless the mark has slipped.

yea everything is hooked right. I think the harmonic balancer itself is slipping. At tdc on the #1 compression stroke my index marks are about 6 inches left of the marker
