Default timing chain

i been wanting to replace my chain since i got the truck about 6 months ago, it has 175k on a 95' 302. i believe the chain is loose enough that it retarding my valve timing and killing power, fuel mileage and drinking a **** ton of gas. the problem is i have a hard time find the time to do it. i talked to a local shop and they told me $450 including parts and the book calls for 8 hr labor thats why it so high. how tough is this job i dont know much about 5.0L.

It's really not a bad job. If you're mechanically inclined, it's pretty straightforward job. You will have to set aside a day, though to do it, so plan ahead and make sure you have all of the parts and tools on hand. Also, it wouldn't hurt to replace the water pump while you have the timing cover off.
