Default Ticking when hard accelerating

I got a 91 f150 XL dont normally do this but when i put my foot to the floor on first or second there is a faint clicking/ ticking sound. Its been driving me nuts and can seem to figure out the issue. The clicks are not consecutive more like random and only when my foots all the way down on it witch rarely is the case any way.

Are you using cheap crap gas? If you are, run it down to 1/8 of a tank then fill up with higher octane name brand gas. After 50 miles or so floor it again and see if the noise is gone. If it still makes the sound, maybe you timing is off a little. I'm no expert and this is what I would try if my truck was doing what your truck is doing

Hey, did you end up finding out what your ticking is from? I also have a mysterious tick-tick-tick going on, but mine is pretty much all the time not just hard acceleration. I have a '96 f150 4wd straight 6 that was parked for a little over 2 years so im still smoothing out the little kinks here and there 😁
Anywho, was just gonna suggest that if it is indeed a crappy fuel issue you're dealing with, run it down to 1/8 tank like David said and then if you can find non-ethanol 91 somewhere fill up on that plus a bottle of seafoam and it should hopefully smooth things out. From my understanding, older vehicles aren't able to withstand this 10% ethanol BS. Ethanol is alcohol and alcohol, while giving more power, causes engines to run hotter thus causing much quicker wear of fuel systems, valves, etc. Luckily I live in a rural area and have an agway that still sells non ethanol fuel so I'll run up there as much as I am able to fill up. Makes a huge difference in my mileage and truck runs smoother. Just my humble 2 cents. Hope you find the answer to if you haven't yet!!

Had some old guy at firestone check it out. He said it could be a transmission thing but not to worry to much about it his son has a 93 f150 makes the same sound and hes been driving it for over 3 years. Just said treat it like a 30 year old truck and not a 3 year old mustang. Dont think its the fuel issue and there is a slight exhaust manifold leak that makes its own sound. All in all the truck does the job i need to do. I'll just save some money up and fix it when i can.
