Thinking of rebuild for 2016 project
Well, not ME rebuilding, I don't have the knowledge, space, or equipment.
But I wanted to see what you guys think of rebuilding engines. My 5.0 has 223K+ miles on it. Been pricing rebuild prices and probably cheaper than buying a used Focus and starting all over with tune ups, suspensions, yikes. Done a lot on my truck in suspension, maintenance, and things of that nature. Only thing left is taking the engine apart and cleaning/doing engine things to it.
Not a stranger to rebuilding mechanical things (except car engines). I do restores on classic bicycles. I know, not same thing but we have similar tools and presses and I know how to use a bench grinder to polish something.
Anyway, this local guy is advertising for rebuilds. I've searched locally and yelp has good reviews. He's not listed on BBB so I can't find that. But he is in Los Angeles area and we have lots of car fanatics here.
But the bottom of his ad has this and just wondering what some of these are:

When I was doing research on rebuilds, I read that usually they don't do NEW pistons and rings so wondering if the price he's charging and getting those are good. Also, besides the spelling errors, can someone describe some of those things above? Not sure what rod & main bearings are. What is a valve job? What is reground crank cam? What's a freeze plug?
