The ECT sensor will tell you if it's not getting Closed loop temp or it has a problem itself.

No *****...?

If a t-stats is stuck open it WILL overheat as well and the tstat opens and closes to speed up and slow down the rate of water moving thru it...stuck open or leaving it out and the water goes thru too fast and doesnt have time to expel the heat...

only way it wouldnt is if it is only stuck open a little bit where it acts as a re stricter

As I have stated before...it takes LESS fuel to make the same AFR the cooler the engine is up to a point (over 145 degrees) and it take alot more fuel teh hotter the engine is.... running a 160 stat will NOT use more fuel than a 180...it is not mapped for such...it is actually mapped for less or else it would run rich......

Sure I do, they just perfer 180F to 160F! You know, as we get older, I think it's a circulatory thing! First the feet, then the legs, and I guess it just keeps going!

So, I went to change my thermo yesterday, and it would not stop leaking after install! i went out and got another gasket and coated it, and it leaked again. So, I figured something was wrong. And i find out that some jack at autozone gave me the wrong thermostat!!!!!!!!!!!
And after two gaskets and 5 hrs of labor, you can imagine, i was a little bit pissed off...
So tomorrow, I am going back there, and they are going to get a piece of my mind! Grrrrr!

yea the t-stat should fit in the lip...most of the time the lip needs to be cleaned...

on Ford Sideways mounted t-stat I use a little silicon and very lightly put some int he lip to hold the t-stat in place and also lightly coat the gasket side and housing...let this set and then install...takes me about 15 minutes...a little grease on the block side and the gasket will seal but wont stick to the block....

ok i got that same problem but when my dad checked something out behind the glove box turned out to be broken, but when ever i get in the truck and drive down the road will that cause all the heat to go out and cold gets in, but i got the 302 V8 and where would my thermostat be at, so i can see if that is the problem also
