Default tachometer red wire connection.

Hello:

I have a Sunpro supertach 2 - 2 5/8 face and I would like to know where to connect the "Red" wire to?

I have a 1992 Ford F150 with the 5.0 engine and automatic transmission. The tachometer manual says not to connect the red wire to accessories position, and to connect it to a circuit which has battery voltage only when the engine is in the "ON' position. All other connections are good.

Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

use an electrical tester and look around under the dash for a wire that is only hot when the ignition is on.

Hello:
Thanks for the info.

I found a place to connect the "Red" wite. I looked at my Hayes manual in the electrical diagrams section and I found the perfect place to connect to. In the electrical diagram at fuse box fuse #17 (10 Amps). This fuse controls the trucks instraments panel gauges, which also controls/feeds the tachometer on trucks so equiped.

Tachometer works perfectly now.

The reason why they say not to connect the red wire to the acc or battery+ is that it can cause a slow drain on the battery.

Again thanks.
