Default The Swamp Donkey

Hello. This is one of those things I've been dreaming about for a long time. Back in 2000 when I was ten years old my dad was Given a truck, that truck is a '93 Ford f150. At the time to me it was a regular truck 300 6 cylinder plain Jane no option truck 4x4 and 4 speed manual with o.d. as time progressed I fell in love with it we used it hard in the bush hauling thousands of pounds of firewood out everyday without issue, we would take the truck anywhere and she never got stuck 4 low in 1st gear let go of the gas and it would lug anywhere pulling a big load of wood in the box and dragging 7 trees behind it. We live in a very swampy area and the truck would go through it all day everyday and we decided to call it the swamp donkey. After 8 years of this kind of life the swamp donkey finally called it quits the slave cylinder quit. I didn't have the money to fix it and my dad didn't want to saying it served it's purpose and wasn't worth fixing. We pushed the truck aside and it sat since then. I have many many memories in that truck and seeing it sit after all we put it through really bothered me. Today after 7 Years of sitting the truck has been pulled out of its hole and is getting a new clutch slave cylinder and throw out bearing. 300 6 engines go and go and go bit I am a bit worried about the oil smelling like gas and being over filled I'm going to drain the oil and put some Rotella 15w40 in it and some premium gas. Here's what she looked like after 7 Years of sitting.

Looking kinda rough pardner, but I bet the memories all came back. Maybe your dad was right. It could be a money pit.

Yeah its rough but I think its worth it. And believe it or not but around here finding a 300 6 manual 4x4 truck is next to impossible and if you find one you gotta pay big money for it.

They're all money pits one way or another. If it makes you happy, it's money well spent.
At least the original purchase price is good.

Thanks! The nickname I came up with when my dad said it worked and went through the swamp like a mule lol and I said yeah! Like a swamp donkey !!!! After that the name stuck and every one called it that even if they didn't know why! BTW replaced all the fuses tonight swapped in a new key ignition (lost original key after 7 Years good thing I have 3 parts trucks to go through) put new battery post in and new battery all my lights work hazards signal brights dims brake lights and both fuel pump kicked on instantly first time in 7 Years that's why I buy ford, I was worried mice and time had its toll on the donkey glad to say no the donkey will live another day just need oil and gas and it's fire er up time!!!

UPDATE - today I got the front end work all done finished the levelling kit put different wheels and tires on just for now until I get the swampers on. This Wednesday I plan on finishing everything including firing it up before it leaves to the shop for clutch work. Anything special I should do before I fire it up? Hasn't ran in at least 5 years now. I was going to throw an high quality 10w30 oil with a conditioner in it and throw premium gas mixed with fuel system cleaner in?

next tank or two it would be a good idea to run a good strong detergent through. i like chevron techron run at a good concentration. perhaps fill with cheap oil, drive to shop for clutch and drain/refill again with oil of choice, if you said it smelled of gas badly. the rotella is very good oil but may be a bit thick. 5w30 may best to stick with. i wouldnt treat the oil with anything, i have never been a fan of that.
