stumped
My 95 f150 has an inline 6, 4.9L in it. Sometimes it won't start. I thought the fuel pump was bad in the front fuel tank because it would stall out sometimes so I switched to using the rear tank. Was running fine for the past week or so and now all the sudden the truck won't start. I switched it back to the front tank and the truck starts. After its running, I switched back to the back tank to see if something was wrong there, but nothing. We changed the fuel filter recently. Could this be a fuel pressure regulator problem?
Pull codes and "borrow" a fuel pressure tester, they have them at most auto parts stores. Test engine off pump primed, engine running, then how quickly/far the pressure drops after the engine is turned off.
Like he said. The fuel pressure tester screws onto the schrader (bicycle tire) valve on the fuel rail. You could have a faulty check valve in one of your pumps - the pressure test will give a better idea
If you find the fuel pressure is OK at the Shrader valve, either cranking engine or idling, consider an intermittent problem with the Hall-Sensor pickup in the distributor.
If trouble is eliminated by putting in a different distributor, there's the fix. imp
