Default Stereo weirdness

I'll preface this by saying this stereo was rigged into my dash. I fixed the wiring to how it should be and now it's acting up on me (more).

On the aux in setting, using my iPod, it sounds like crap. Only plays on like 1 channel, and it's only background noise. I've used friend's ipods on there, friends aux cords, and it's the same deal. But if I plug my ipod car charger into the 12v and the bottom of the ipod, everything functions right. Unplug the power cord and everything goes back to ****.

Also, last night on 1 specific radio station, it would only play out of one speaker. But the whole system worked on every other radio station. And 106.5(station in question) worked fine in everyone elses trucks.

Is my head unit taking a **** on me? Because I feel like it is, but in the weirdest of ways lol

Yeah sounds like the head unit is shot. No big deal to install a new one and no install kits needed other then the wiring adapter.

Do you have the frame of the radio grounded to the body? Not just through the harness?

Scrap - its just through the harness. But everything worked fine for 2.5 years. Then radio started rebooting at high volume so I chased wires and did it right. Same problem. I did ground to the frame during testing and noticed no difference so just went back to the harness for simplicity

I really want to know what I was thinking 2.5 years ago when I put this thing in lol. Just followed where the old wires were... dear god. I got the constant power right, switched power was hooked to the dimmer wire, and the ground was something completely wrong! But it worked for a while somehow
