Steering wheel problem
In my 1987 f150, I have the stock 87 steering column, I swapped a bullnose steering wheel onto it and it works no problem, snug and same splines, I was leaning over to adjust my passenger mirror, and putting a lil weight on it, it then kinda gave and was free to spin as if the key was in the on position in the ignition, I then moved the wheel around and it locked out again, when I was leaning over to adjust the mirror the key wasn’t in the ignition and the wheel was locked out, video above that shows it, did I snap the plastic lockout pin thing in the column or what happened? Seems all fine but when u slightly pull up on the wheel it like slips and unlocks the wheel, then when u relock it in a different position it doesn’t do it, it seems like one of the positions it was in when I leaned over snapped or chipped the lockout thing and now if u slightly pull up it slips and unlocks the wheel, it also like gets spring loaded when it’s in the certain position but then when u put the key in and unlock the wheel it shoots the wheel as if the wheel was under pressure from the position, before I leaned on the wheel it was fine never had done that before, and it’s not the bullnose wheel, I either think it’s the lockout thing in the column or idk, if anyone has ever had this problem or messed with the inside of a 87-91 steering column can u send a pic of the inside or lend advice on what happened or how to fix it? Thx
Apparently, the position of the steering wheel lock (on the steering wheel) changed from those years
That is the metal ring on the back of the steering wheel with all the teeth
You may be able to modify or bend all the teeth to make better contact with the pin that comes out when you pull your key back and out
if you take that wheel back off and examine the starring lick pin, you see it is tapered
That taper and its position is causing your grief
maybe you can fix it
