Question Steering shaft

I have some play in the telescoping steering shaft. My son's F-1filthy has the same issue. So where the lower steering shaft telescopes in case of accident, there is play. That allows some play in the steering. Ford parts say they have sold lots of them for the same reason. $215 each. And they will wear out again quickly. So anyone know of an aftermarket replacement that is durable. Or a fix for this engineered defect?

I found a company that makes aftermarket, heavy duty steering components. Off road stuff, like power steering for early Bronco's and CJ's etc. they make steering shafts. About $250. The company is Borgeson.
