Default Steering column

Went to start truck and no luck found the actuator arm on starter switch was giving me a problem. I manually moved switch with key on. It turns over but no spark. Also i cant get it out of park. What am I missing. Do I need a whole new column. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bump.

Not sure if it matters, but what year is your truck? Basic info too incase it makes a difference to anyone that is more knowledge than I am (I'm not very knowledgeable on the electronics on our trucks).

By manually do you mean you took the switch off the column and used it? Have you checked the other ignition components to see if it's not actually getting spark anywhere? Does it crank but not turnover?

I guess some basics would help. It's an 88 I took the switch off the column and manually pushed it. It cranks but that's it. I can smell the gas that's why I'm guessing no spark. Also won't come out of park. The arm going down to the switch feels sloppy also like maybe something is missing. I wish I had a pic of the inside of the column

check the ignition stuff under the hood. And while you're at it, check fuel pressure. Not sure if the park thing is related.

Found the problem. Broken piece in the column it attaches to the arm and it's what locks the truck in park. Called dealer and he new exactly what piece I was talking about. He said they break all the time. $19 at the dealer guess I'll be hitting the junk yard in am. And at the same time my distributor took a crap.
