starting problem
When it fails to disengage have someone pull the Ign. wire from the solenoid. I think it should disengage implying failure of Ign, Switch contacts to separate after momentary contact for energizing starter relay. Or remove Ign. wire & measure voltage to ground, while someone turns switch to start position and releases multiple times. Voltage other than start position should not be seen
Hey BK121, if it starts normally when you jump the solenoid, the problem is a sticky ignition switch. When the problem occurs next time, apply backward (counter-clockwise) pressure on the ignition switch. That's not the full acid test, but it may confirm my theory. BTW, there is no seperate relay for the start circuit. The solenoid 0n the fender is it.
