Default Starter Bendix?

My starter has been acting stupid for the last few days.. when i push the button my starter just makes a whizzing noise.. like the bendix isnt engaging.. some one told me the bendix is controlled by a spring that could be wore out and i could just replace the spring.. my question is has anyone did this before? was it a pretty simple thing to do or would it be easier to just buy a new starter..

starters arent to expensive. i paid 60 for a rebuilt one, and i gave them my old one so i got a bit more money off. and the starter is super easy to replace.

+1 replace it. Once you mix a new part with an old one, the old ones have a better chance of failing. This is not to say that once you replace a starter, you should then replace the battery cables, then battery, then alternator and so on.
