Hey guys how are ya?
I have a 1996 F150 XL 4.9 With a M5OD in it with 135 000 miles on it and i had some questions regarding a noise recently.
So for the past week or two, Ive heard a small sputtering coming from the exhaust. I only hear the sputter after i rev the engine and slows back down to an idle (doesn't sputter while idling) or shifting gears. The sputter only last about a second but doesn't seem to affect the truck, possibly the fuel mileage but i believe thats related to the 97 degree with humidity doing that recently.
I know for a fact that the stock muffler itself has small holes on the bottom and i will be replacing that, but there are no holes in the pipes that i can see. I just want to know if those hole on the muffler is making that sputter, or do i have a problem somewhere else like my rotor cap or plugs? ( Changed the plugs only 5000 miles ago) Just want to be certain if it may be a problem to check soon and repair it, or if it can wait another couple weeks to get money for the repairs.
I know i could probably figure this out on my own but i just feel its safer getting other opinions first.
Thanks
