Default Speedo, Odometer not working, harsh shift

My speedo and odometer stopped working on my 92 F150 4x4. Also, I noticed a harsh shifting, down and up.

I checked the #8 and #18 fuse, no problem there. The VSS on top of the hog's head at the rear is connected and looks to be good.

I did, however to my horror found a busted transfer case. No idea how that happened since I do not off road much.

Any ideas?

Do you have interior lights? Overhead and courtesy on the doors?

Yes, the overhead lights work. Ordered a factory manual for this truck. Hoping it will be useful.

If the interior lights work, the circuit has power. So if your odometer doesn't even come on, it's most likely a bad speedo unit(PSOM) if it's plugged in properly, which would be something to check.
And yes, if your PSOM is malfunctioning for any reason, it will cause your tranny to act up.
