Default smog/EGR questions?

so i have some issues with my EGR, the computer is spitting out the 322 code, and the problem is affecting my MPG horribly. As of right now i get around 7-8MPG with a somewhat conservative right foot, and a manual transmission with OD, i have the 4.9L straight six, and i was looking at the whole EGR system, and i noticed that from where it picks up exhaust down under the truck, it flows up to what i assume is the EGR, and from there it flows down to this pump (witch i assume is a smog pump?) then up to a black canister, then back to the EGR, then into my fuel rail? (i think), my question is what is all of this? and would it be better off without it?

Might be cheaper to fix your egr problem than do a smog delete kit.

you got pictures ?

EGR just picks up extra gas from the headers and throws it back into the intake manifold.

i can go get a picture right now, and i priced out an all new egr set up and its almost $200, im not sure what to do at this point, i cant afford the new egr stuff, and i cant afford gas at 7 MPG, i would be happy if i could pull at least 14, im hoping ill be able to pick up that 7 with a tune up and such, but with no income, only having an 1/8th of a tank left, and tags expiring in two weeks idk what im gonna do lol.

Finish testing the system. Could just need a band aid on the hose if it is just leaking air.

I would replace that belt to before it breaks and the fan catches it.

i would do that if i knew what i was working with or what all of it is, like i asked in my OP what is is all? i know what the EGR is, but what is the random canister and pump? and whats it for?

as for the belt im aware it needs replaced but im in the same boat with it as with everything else, no income, means no parts, i just have to hope it holds up till i have the money.

The EGR is not part of that other crap, the smog system.
