I'll be 20 in 2 weeks, and been driving my truck daily since a week after turning 17. The gas mileage isn't that great, but it's doable unless you're running 40 miles a day and burning 80 bucks a week. I'd rather pay the gas than repairs though.

And then I bought a me a bike to save gas, 55mpg! Still driving the truck a lot though
It started right up no problems, sounded good. Cant say much about drives good because i havent had it on the road, needs brakes and not sure on the frame.. Still think its worth it? Other problem i forgot about, the 2nd tank has a hole about half way up so it needs fixed or just not used. 1st tank is fine,

You only need one tank. My back tank is boned as well, bad fuel pump. Definately check the frame out. And check closely around where the power steering box is connected to the driver side frame. I've read that is an area that can crack or warp or something.

Brakes, if you can do them, aren't too expensive. Basically it appears to be a little bit of a fixer upper, but after it's fixed it would still cost less than if you had bought the same truck in good working shape

Well Thanks!, What do you think is a fair price on it? If i buy it, I may fix it up a little and like i said, just use it to play around with, get some experience, and drive around on our property. Not sure if i would trust it to be road worthy. Reason im interested is because price, just want to make sure its a deal.

A truck, an honest face and a lawn mover can actually make you money.

Finally got my brakes fixed thanks to good advice. I have an 87 that had problems with the rear brakes locking up. It had been setting up a while also. Last thing that I replaced was the rear brake line. It cost less than $15 and no more than 30 min to replace. Apparently over time the flexible hose deteriorates and will restrict the fluid, acting as a check valve. The springs on the pads aren't strong enough to push the fluid back. If anyone is having this problem they need to replace the hoses before replacing the rotors or drums. They are about the most expensive parts of the brakes and you want them to last more than a month or two.
Reminds me or my first new truck, 1993 when I was 30 years old. I've got an 87 and an 01 now. Guess when I die I'll have at least a few F-150s in my will.
Good luck, I know you will be happy with whatever Ford you end up getting. Here in Georgia, not having a pick-up is akin to a man not having *********.

hey best thing a yourger person can do is buy an old pickup. when i was your age i bought a old beat up truck that didnt even have a good engine when i was 16. it builds charater in my opinion. and since you know what it takes to fix it you treat it better and it lasts longer. everyone i knew in high school that had the truck handed to em blew it up or ran it into the ground because they needed a new one. anyway hell ya buy it learn how to fix it up.
