First, connections. Undo them and sand everything till they're shiny. Battery, solenoid, starter, grounds. People miss the grounds, but there's a bunch of them and they're just as important as the positive ones.
I agree that you could be looking at a coil or a pickup (PIP). You have to check for spark when it dies.
But they don't usually start working because you bang on the starter solenoid. Bad wire, bad connection, bad battery, or that new solenoid is not so good.

Found a bad ignition wire and I fixed it but the problem still wont go away. Will the pick up from a same year 300 straight 6 work? I ask because I have a totaled one I can strip for parts. And it only has 30,000 on it. Im swapping the coil from it tonight

According to rockauto they use the same part number, so yes, if you can get it out you can use it. Start by removing the PIP from the broke down truck, that way you know what your doing when you tackle the one you need. Be careful of the teeth.

Yeah, I've swapped The PIP from a 95 300 into a 95 302. Pain in the *** job getting the dist. apart and back together.
A word of advice : be really careful to line the hole in the gear for the drift pin up with the one in the shaft exactly. You can't turn it even a tiny bit once you've started pressing it back on.
And a puller for that gear is an idea - they don't come off easy at all !!

Alright now I got done rebuilding the distributor nd put a new coil on and still no fire. Now ive found that my pump wont turn on (front or back tanks) and both worked before. I replaced the relay and the emergency shut off switch and the selector switch on the dash but still nuthing. What in the world could this be? Im more last than ever.

Did you try jumping the fuel pump relay?

Sounds like you may not have something hooked up, common cause of it worked before I did this but know it doesn't.

Ensure distributor is correctly orientated.
All wires are connected, if switch isn't connected the pumps won't come on.
Check fuses (probably blew a fuse-just a guess)
If everything checks out then jump the fuel pump relay wire, this will force the pumps to engage.

The truck is running good now. I found some corroded pins on the wire connector at the eec.
